Every family enrolled at Children First works with a Family Advocate. Family Advocates support overall family well-being and parent engagement, which is the cornerstone of our work at Children First. Family Advocates work in partnership with parents and caregivers to set and meet financial, educational, and occupational goals. Advocates provide the support, encouragement, and resources families need to move out of poverty.
- Providing opportunities for you to be a part of your child’s education
- Connecting you with resources that you or your child needs
- Creating action plans
- Achieving educational, occupational, or financial goals
- Referring you to partner agencies for clothing, housing, or food assistance

Vocational Family Advocacy
Vocational Family Advocates (VFAs) help parents and caregivers strengthen their position in the workplace. They can help parents to increase job skills, advance their education, and find employment. They can also connect parents with job training resources available in the community. Our Parent Training Program helps parents build employability skills and get experience by working in one of the following areas at Children First:
- Early Childhood Development
- Food Service
- Maintenance/Facilities
- Clerical Services
Children First’s Family Strengthening Program is funded in part by Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation.
