Children First Welcomes Families Back to School!

Exploring New Classrooms and Meeting Teachers
On Tuesday, August 8, Children FIrst welcomed our families to meet their teachers and explore their new classrooms!  It was wonderful seeing the excitement on their faces as our children ran into their new classrooms.  We are so appreciative of our dedicated volunteers who helped make the event possible.   A big hit with the preschoolers, firefighters from the Sarasota County Fire Department met families, showing off one of their trucks and even let children practice using the hose!  Representatives from Sarasota County Library shared information on language and literacy topics, and a representative from Sarasota County government discussed energy conservation strategies and gave out free energy efficient LED light bulbs.  We are happy to partner with these organizations and grateful for their interest in helping our families!

Free Health Screenings for Enrolled Children
During the orientation, the Venice Lions Club provided vision screenings, while the Ear Research Foundation conducted hearing tests.  Both organizations, along with dozens of Children First volunteers gave of their time and services to make sure every child has a great start to the school year. The majority of the students attending Children First come from households with incomes at or below the federal poverty guidelines, and may not have access to quality healthcare.  These screenings further the organization’s mission of strengthening children and families by improving the quality of their lives through a comprehensive approach to development, education, health, and well-being.
